Great external battery, one of the best out there

Anker 13000mAh External Battery Charger

Anker 13000mAh External Battery Charger

Anker gave me this product in exchange for my honest feedback.

This external battery is about the size of an average size GPS unit. It's small enough to fit in your pocket but just barely. It's enclosed in a great looking black case with silver trim around the corners. The black case is smooth and shiny and looks great. It seems to be made very well and I think it could withstand some rough use. The case has a built-in LED light that comes in handy sometimes. The light isn't super bright but it's bright enough for what I need. One thing that is very unique about this external battery is that it has two USB ports on the top of it. This gives you the ability to charge two devices at once. I have used an external battery before but it didn't have the ability to charge two devices at once. This will come in extremely handy when my family goes to vacation. Everyone in my house has their own iPad so there will be some serious need for recharging during our upcoming 16 hour road trip. One of the ports charges at 2000 mAh per hour and the other charges at 1000 mAh per hour. You can charge many different devices with this battery and really anything that can plug into a USB port. I pretty much only charge our iPad's with it but it definitely has a lot of power. It will charge my iPad 2 over 1 1/2 full charges. It also has four blue LED lights on the front of it that tell you how much charge is left on the battery.

This external battery comes with a handy carry bag. The bag is gray with black pull strings. Both the interior and exterior are very soft. It's also large enough to hold the external battery and the various cords that come with it.

Anker stands behind this with a full 18 month unconditional return policy. Most products come with a 12 month limited warranty is that. That will typically mean that if it breaks within 12 months then they will repair or replace it for free. I don't know that I have ever seen a company say that you can return it for a full refund or replacement for up to 18 months. That is quite a guarantee. I wish all products came with this type of guarantee. My experience with this external battery has been a very good one and I would recommend it to others. I really haven't noticed a single thing about it that I would change.

  2. First, I would like to comment on the order process. I order this on a Thursday morning and choose Amazon's free shipping 5-8 days. I received the item the next morning!!

Now for the Astro E4 13000mAh. It came with a nice carrying case and all the cables you need to charge iPhone, iPads, and most cell phones. The device itself is well built and the added LED flashlight is a plus. The device was already charged at 4 stars, so not sure how full the battery was exactly. My iPad was at 68%, my iPhone 4 was at 48%, and my Verizon MiFi was at 42%. I charged the iPad and phone to 100% at the same time, then charged the MiFi to 100%. The Astro E4 still had two LED lights left. I have sinced charged my phone twice and still have not charged the external battery.

If you have a standard USB wall charger that will output at least 2amp, then you can use the included mini USB to USB cord to charge the Astro E4.

  3. Very cool product and has a lot of juice ( 13000 mAH ).
    pros:
1- more juice at a very reasonable price.
    2- dual ports ( 3 amps total)
    3- LED light

    cons:
I wish if Anker will use a sliding switch to power the LED light instead of double click on home button, it's a minor issue because sometimes switched on accidentally

overall , it's a very high quality product, excellent FF packing

  4. Any avid user of a smartphone device or a tablet should have this kind of a device on them.
I tested this device with four of my products: iPhone 5, Samsung Fascinate, iPad 3 A.K.A the new iPad, as well as a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0".
The test went on for about two weeks, and there are some other features that I'd like to see.
    Here are the results:
iPhone 5, charged about 5 times at various levels until the battery went out. You can charge it 10 times if you don't charge any other devices!
    1) 18%-100% in 56 minutes
    2) 10%-100% in 75 minutes
    3) 1% (literally, no battery!) to 100% in 100 minutes
    4) 35%- 100% in 40 minutes
    5) 15%- 100% in 156 minutes [Full Cycle Charge]
I was using my phone during some of these tests, hence the numbers.

iPad 3 charged about twice on all the LED's. One thing that I found funny is that I would have 2 LED's, but once I plugged the charger out of the iPad, it defaulted to three! Weird, huh!

The Samsung devices charged fine as well, but I am mainly an Apple guy, so I took statistics on those.

Now onto more anesthetic, feel and look of the actual device.
One thing I would like to see is rubber stoppers on the bottom of the device. While testing this device it was kept on many surfaces, and every time I was afraid that the device would slip and fall. The simple inconclusion of that rubber stoppers on the bottom would be great.
The button used to turn the battery on, and also check the flashlight on feels a little cheap....I mean it is usable, just doesn't feel great.
I would love it if we had another button or switch to turn the flashlight on and off; couple of times the flashlight went off in my backpack.
One thing that drives me insane is the glossy finish on this device. though the battery and the device is amazing, one thing that I hate is getting fingerprints all over it. I would like to see a matte or aluminum finish, as well as a Lightning USB included!
Also, a better bag would be nice :)

All in all, for the price, this bad guy is a bargain. He can charge your iPad, and though there are some of us who still tend to carry laptops, most of us now carry around tablets when travelling.
The device is also SUPER light, doesn't weigh a ton at all.
Once again, if you use a smart phone, a tablet or any other electronic device that can be charged by USB this is your Best Buy.
    Excellent Job once again, Anker.
