Brilliant shine; easy to apply; great packaging

Meguiars G6207 Black Wax

Meguiars G6207 Black Wax

Meguiar's is the only car wax we have ever used since the 1970's. Meguiar's has been around since 1901, and they not only know what they are doing when it comes to making the best wax for cars, but they make the longest lasting wax that will literally keep water beading up on your car for a full year. I know this for a fact, as we wax our cars at the end of every summer and the water is still beading up on the car a year later when we give it a new waxing.

We usually use Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Paste Wax which costs around $11.00, and if we have more money to spend, we on occasion buy Meguiar's Ultimate Paste Wax which costs around $21.00. They are both superb paste waxes, very easy to put on with the enclosed sponge pads on a cool day, out of direct sunlight and very easy to rub off when dry with a clean white terry cloth towel. Liquid waxes are not nearly as good as paste waxes, as we find the paste waxes last way longer, are shinier and are easier to apply.

Trying this new Meguiar's Black Wax on our two black cars, I was skeptical if it would be as good, as it is not a paste wax in a can. I found it is also not a liquid wax either, as it is in a tube with a consistency of a thick gray toothpaste- not as thick as wax, but definitely not liquid. It does not dry as quickly as a paste wax, so you have to wax the entire car before wiping the wax off. We did use the same type of sponge pad to put the wax on, also on a cool day, out of direct sunlight, and wiped it off with a clean white terry cloth towel- exactly the same way we use a paste wax.

When we were finished, we had the same great shine that Meguiar's Paste Wax gives our car, with one main difference- there is a definite super reflective mirror finish- exactly like you see in a Car Showroom- so super high gloss- you can see yourself in it! Since we tried it on black cars, my brother asked if he could try it on a navy and dark green car. He did and he got the same super high gloss Showroom Shine- so we know any dark color car will get the same gorgeous mirror shine that our black cars get from this Black Wax. We found out, there are no dyes or colorants in this wax, so it is safe for any dark colored cars. Just make certain your car is a glossy color and not a flat or matte color, as this wax only works on glossy cars. For dark colored cars, this wax simply makes your car look as good as the day it came off the Showroom Floor and it will stay this gorgeous for a full year, making it a GREAT 5 STAR WAX!

  1. I am very happy that this product produced the results it promises. The swirl marks on my black Kia Sorrento are completely gone and the car looks showroom new. I have recommended this to all my friends with black cars. I used the included foam applicator and some cheap microfiber towels from Wal-mart for polishing. I can't imagine better results are possible any other way. It took some elbow grease to get the job done, but the results are well worth it. I am anxious to see how long it lasts. So far, we've driven through a couple horrendous downpours and the dried dust and dirt wipes off easily. I'm lucky to have a garage, so I'm hoping I'll get through the summer and fall with a pretty great shine.

This is the product to use on your black car.

  2. This is very nice wax compared to what I normally use. I typically buy the cheaper wax from turtle Wax or some of those "once a year" brands. I usually see very little difference after I am done waxing so I don't do it on a regular basis. I drive a Jeep Wrangler that I take off-road frequently and the pinstriping from the brush covers my Jeep. Being black, it really shows the scratches but I;ve accepted that since I enjoy off-roading. About a year ago I tried a black wax from Turtle wax that comes with a lipstick marker but the results were less than thrilling. The scratches were still present and the paint was still dull.

A buddy of mine suggested trying the Mequiar's as he claimed it was much better. To my surprise, this wax brought the beautiful shine back to my Jeep and got rid of the dull look. Scratches can still be seen but they are muted a bit. we have been in a dry spell since I applied the wax so I am looking forward to seeing how it does when it rains.

I probably won;t wax my Jeep often but this wax will be my choice for now wheever I need to clean my Jeep for a family event!

  3. I've used and liked a variety of Meguiar's products over the years and have rarely been disappointed. This wax is turning into one of my all-time favorites.

It applies very easily provided the car is in the shade (black cars plus sunlight = a surface that's way too hot for any wax). I'm especially pleased with the packaging - it comes in a tube much the same as toothpaste. The wax itself is gray colored and thick, and the tube makes it very easy to dispense without any mess or wastage. Very well done!

It can be applied with a buffer, but I just applied it by hand using the included applicator (a round piece of foam). Very easy to apply.

It buffs off easily after letting ir dry to a haze. I used a couple of microfiber cloths, turning them frequently and starting a new cloth when the old one got loaded with wax. I then did a final buff with a fresh micro fiber cloth. (While Mcguiar also makes the cloths, I get mine from Sam's Club - very inexpensive, and decent quality).

The shine was tremendous - this is why I got a black car! It looked so good I didn't want to take it out of the garage to keep it clean.

I can't speak to the longevity of the shine or the protection as of yet, but other Meguiar waxes have provided me with a very long-lasting shine. I'll update the review should this not prove to be durable.

If you have a black car, get this. The shine will not disappoint, and you don't have to work very hard to get the job done. Highly recommend!

  4. I have used many products on the market through the years. Meguiar's generally never disappoints me. This product is a "paste" wax (not liquid form). The wax applied easily in the shade on my black 2008 vehicle. I generally wax my car about once a month when the weather is nice. Being's I have a vehicle that is a few years old it does not have a "show room" finish like it once did. Although it is very nice and I take great care of it...it still looks its best after its waxed. Because a black car is tough to keep looking shiny and glossy I wanted something to really make it shine. This product did just that! I was thrilled to have it look rich and vibrant again. What really made this a great option was the price (cheaper than many Meguiar's products) and very easy to put on and take off. I applied a small amount with the applicator, once it was hazy I used old t-shirts to remove and polish the car. Finally, I went over the whole thing with a microfiber cloth to finish off the job. All in all this went very easy without any problems...and my car looks amazing!

  5. I first used the Turtle Wax "Black Box" on my truck and was really disappointed. It hardly looked any different when I was done and it was a lot of work. Next I used some Meguiar's Swirl-X followed with Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax. The truck looked great but it was kind of a nuisance to get all the white haze from the dried wax out of the cracks . . . so I tried this - wow, I love it. It covered minor scratches, and gave my truck a deep black shine. I was surprised the truck could look better than it already did.

This wax is really a different kind of wax - it comes in a tube like toothpaste, and squeezes out like toothpaste. It has a different smell to it and is a weird gray color - but it is easy to use (just like any other wax) and makes black paint look great. I highly recommend it.

The only question I have is how far the tube will go - it feels like it won't stretch that far, but we'll see, it could just be that it is hard to gauge it.

  6. I am not a specialist by far about polish. I usually get my car cleaned by professionals because I do not have the time to do it myself.
This time, my car was fairly dirty after the recent pollen outbreak and I got the chance to review the Meguiar G6207 Black Wax.
It came in the box like in the picture with a tube of polish and a foam applicator. A very few basic instructions. I would have liked to be told how long to wait before passing the cloth after the polish dries up but I did not see anything related.
It took me a total of three and a half hours to do my car completely, including windows, interior wash and vacuum. Out of that time, I would say it must have taken me about one hour and forty five minutes to wax the car and then finish it up. I did it alone and my car is large. I will try to post some pictures but I don't see any link at the time of the review.
The final result is very satisfactory. Cleaned and dried, the car looked good I must say but up close, many imperfections were visible, many related to residues of incrustrated tree sap I am afraid.
After waxing the car, the defects may still be there but they are hidden by a strong glossy finish that makes the black car paint like a mirror. It is a very pleasant finish. It is worth noticing that the tube was not completely used up in the operation so it should be enough for a large SUV.
I still have to add that while I was passing the few remaining passes with the cloth for a perfect shine, I felt the hair on my forearm react to static electricity. As well, the car got covered with what may look like dandruff coming out of the dried wax itself and maybe bits of the microfiber cloth I was using. They all flew away as I drove to refill my tank.
I will not have to wash my car and wax it soon again hopefully but I am happy that I did not waste my time.
I would defintiely recommend Meguiar's G6207 Black Wax.

  7. The Meguiar's G6207 Black Car Wax is a little different than the stuff I have been using on my black Toyota 4-Runner. For one thing it comes in a tube like toothpaste and it is about the same consistency. It isn't coal black in color. It is dark gray and it doesn't stain polishing rags or applicators.

I first applied the Meguiar's Black Wax by hand with the included pad. It went on easily, but didn't dry to a white haze. It dried with a gray haze and didn't show up as a white powder in little cracks.

As an experiment I used a dual action polisher to put it on, but didn't see much difference than the hand application. I am not so sure getting out the polishing tool was worth the effort because the Black Wax goes on so easily with the little applicator pad that comes with the product.

The directions suggest applying the wax to the entire vehicle before beginning to buff and polish. I think that provides the amount of time for the wax to dry enough for maximum shine.

Anyhow, the stuff needs a little time to dry, but it comes off easily with a microfiber towel.

By the way, I used my electric dual action polisher with a wool pad to buff the wax in a few spots. To my surprise, I had better luck using the microfiber towel and some elbow grease.

My 4-Runner looks great after waxing it with the Meguiar's. The shallow swirl marks are gone and the deep glossy appearance is a thing of beauty.

  8. I have been using Meguiar's for quite a while, mostly the Tech wax on my cars. My new car is the first black car I have owned. I used the tech wax, and was happy with the finish, but after speaking with my father in law, decided to try the black wax. It does seems to do a better job of keeping a deep shine on the car longer than the tech wax. I noticed that this wax is much thicker in consistency than the tech wax, much more like a paste wax than the other Meguiar's I have used.

As long as I have this car, I will keep using the black wax on it.
